Well, 2015 is the year of the Misfits! Finally, after 15 years of runniing the league I won it all...twice in a row. Back to back feels pretty good. We added the goal judges to the Gold medal final for the first time and it helped on at least 1 goal so money well spent. We will look to do the same for next seasons finals as well.
This last season went very smoothly. for the first time ever we had the same 3 refs every night, which, for me was a boon. Refs have always been our biggest issue so it was nice to have 3 guys we could count on every night. I know some feel that each ref does his own thing, and maybe they are right, but We will be revamping the rules and getting all the refs on the same page before the next season starts. Hopefully it will help cut down on inconsistancies. I dont think the rules need much tweaking but some need clarification so we will address it in the off season.
We had 2 new teams this season made up of mostly rookies to the league. I want to give them props for showing up every night and not forfeiting even 1 game. I have been on the losing end more times than I care to remember and know how it feels to lose night after night, so you guys showing up to play night after night is appreciated by all the teams, so cheers to the Abby Leafs and Ball Hawgz, hope to have you both back next season.
I am going to push to get 9 teams for next season which will mean an adjustment to playing times. Teams will have nights when they play 1st and 2nd time slots, 2nd and 3rd timeslots and once in while 1st and 3rd time slots, so please keep that in mind. It will also change the playoff format as there would be 8 teams in the playoffs so we would need 3 nights to complete playoffs. with 9 teams we would probably have an A and B final s well. Top 4 would play for A and next 4 would lay for B. Any team that brings us another team will be given consideration on their league fees as well.
Lastly, I would like to thank you all for your continued support of the ABHL. This league has been my baby now for 15 years and over 30 seaons of Hockey. First with Aaron as a partner, then Peter, and now Jason. It has been challenging at times and I have thought of quitting many times, but I always come back to it. I love the game of hockey and to be able to provide a place for guys to play for 7 months a year is what keeps me coming back I think. I have made some good friends through running this league and I have learned a lot. It is still fun for me- most days. It has its challenges but I always look forward to the start of the season. Thanks again everyone. Merry Christmas and Happy new year to you all..yes even you #4 from the Carnage.
